3. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a beginning (Aikido) martial arts class. No previous martial arts experience is necessary to enroll.

4. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

This is a Pass/Fail graded course. Your grade is based on attendance and participation. After your fourth (4th) unexcused absence, you will receive a F (failing) grade.

Students can make-up attendance by attending the UAF Aikido club or other instructor approved classes. The student must report the make-up attendance at the next regular scheduled class meeting so the instructor can record the make-up class on the roll sheet. Student can make-up classes by writing a research paper. Only two classes can be made-up by writing papers. See the class instructor for topics. All make-up attendance must be completed by the last scheduled class of the semester.

Students are responsible for signing the class roll for each class meeting. Your course grade will be based on the class roll sheet.

5. COURSE OBJECTIVES

A. The student will learn the KI exercises, be able to show knowledge of the four KI principles, and show proficiency in these principles.

B. The student will learn the courtesies of martial arts conduct and show respect for the instructor and other students.

C. The student will gain strength and flexibility.

D. The student will demonstrate his/her intent of not injuring an attacker during an attack.

E. The student will learn the basic arts of self defense and develop proficiency in blending KI.
