About Us
Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is to serve three distinct groups:
- UAF faculty and research support staff;
- UAF administration; and
- Funding sponsors.
OSP operates with delegation of authority from the UAF Chancellor and Provost as a unit of the Center for Research Services. We provide support to UAF faculty and staff in applying for external funds for research and other scholarly activities. OSP is also responsible for protecting UAF's interests by reviewing proposals to external funding agencies (sponsors), initiating and implementing pre-award policies and procedures, providing training and outreach, and serving as a liaison between sponsors and UAF. We strive to maintain a balance among these groups and help produce quality proposals with thorough and consistent review criteria, guidance, and support.

History of OSP
In 2000, Ted DeLaca, Vice Provost for Research reorganized the Office of Arctic Research to create the Office of Sponsored Programs. This reorganization was driven by the following needs at UAF:
- Coherent management of pre-award administration;
- Consolidation and improvement of information access and internal and external communications;
- Enhancement of proposal development for the campus;
- Development of an electronic grants administration capability;
- Development of a Research Integrity Office for the campus;
- And, creation of a campus-wide facility for advanced instrumentation and the evolution of ADVAL into a support component of the developing data and teaching center for remote sensing.
