Note:

Have students fill in the following learning log as they do the GLOBE Phenology Learning Activity Investigating Leaf Pigments - Exploration I using water-soluble pens, then continue as suggested below.

Generalize:

• Next ask the questions in the “Generalize” section on pages 4 and 5
• Ask students to share some of the observations from their learning logs
• Ask students to share some of the inferences from their learning logs
• Ask students to share some of the predictions from their learning logs
• Ask students if they had any questions that came up during the investigations. List
• Ask if there are any other questions that students might have. List.
• Put a concept circle on the board and ask students to tell you what variables they could change to answer these questions
• If there are any important variables missing, ask what other variables could we possibly change. List variables on the spokes of the concept map

  Ask students to use the concept map to help them develop a testable question and then design a procedure to test the question

• Provide time and materials for students to work in groups to do their inquiries

Generalize

• Have each group present their question, procedure, results, and interpretation to the class
• Ask questions or suggest additional inquiries to help students clarify any concepts that are still unclear
