Application Deadlines

International/north2north Exchange and Study Abroad

March 1st for programs beginning summer, fall semester, and academic year.

October 1st for programs beginning in the spring semester (not all programs are available for a spring semester start).

December 1st for programs to Japan (excluding those via GlobaLinks).

 

National Student Exchange

February 15th - priority deadline for fall semester, academic year, and following spring semster ; some schools not available after this deadline

May 15th - final deadline for Fall or Academic Year

October 15th - final deadline for Spring

 

If the deadline is on a weekend, the following Monday will be the deadline.

Minimum Requirements

All students applying for academic exchange or study abroad programs through UAF must fulfill minimum requirements.  A student must:

  • Be a degree-seeking student at UAF
  • Have completed at least 2 full-time semesters at UAF before the first semester abroad
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50
  • Good academic, behavioral, and financial standing at UAF
  • No Incomplete grades on transcript (NSE only)

In addition, in order to meet the international requirement of that degree program, Japanese Studies majors must also have:

  • Completed at least JPN 202 or its equivalent prior to departure, and
  • A minimum of a B-average in Japanese language courses, and
  • The recommendation of Japanese language faculty.

Note:  Specific programs may have other requiements, such as a higher GPA or specific language proficiency requirements. The requirements listed are the minimum requirements for being accepted by UAF for a study away experience.  Once accepted by UAF, you must also apply and be accepted by the host school or organization (International Only).  Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into a study away program.

2. Three academic or professional letters of reference (at least two of these references should be from UAF professors with whom you have had class). If they wish, your referrers may use the Confidential Reference Form.

 

National Student Exchange

1. 2013-2014 NSE Application

2.  At least two academic or professional references (a letter can be used in lieu of this reference form)

3.  NSE Application Fee - There is a $200 non-refundable application fee for applications turned in by the priority deadline (February 15th), and a $250 non-refundable application fee for applications turned in after that deadline.

4.  A Language Proficiency Report may be required.

All NSE applications must be typed!
