For F-1 students, H-1B faculty/staff, and departments: The following presentation by David Ware, noted immigration attorney, provides information on H-1B status, transitioning to permanent resident status, and general post-graduation employment options for students graduating from US institutions. David Ware presented this information at UAF on April 14, 2011, and we'd like to thank him for allowing us to publish it to our website.
We often get questions from UAF departments and prospective students about enrolling in classes while in B-1 or B-2 status. Regulations specifically prohibit this, as outlined by guidance from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This information can also be found in our information for UAF Departments.
For International Students: Are friends or family planning to visit you this semester or attend your graduation? If so, we can help you (and them) by providing an invitation letter, to be used in acquiring their B-2 (visitor) visas. Simply fill out the Letter of Invitation Request Form, and turn it into International Programs & Initiatives. This form can also be found in the Forms and Documents section of our website.
Please note that due to limited personnel resources, we can only issue two letters per student, per event. A letter from UAF International Programs & Initiatives is NOT necessary for a successful B-2 invitation. Your personal letter of invitation is most important.
