Summer Extensions

J-1 Exchange Student Program

Enrollment in summer session course(s) must begin during the first summer session beginning in May.

Course(s) must be

• Applicable to student’s academic program at their home institution or
• Have U.S. cultural experience relevancy, i.e., Alaska native studies

All courses and extensions are subject to academic advisor approval. Approval will be based on academic and cultural relevance. Recreational courses may be taken in addition to the preceding courses.

The length of the extension will be based on the course dates of the academic and/or cultural course(s).

Students must provide the following documentation:

• Written request for extension to include a list of proposed course(s) and the dates for the extension period.
• Proof of financial support in the amount of $1,500 per month.
• Proof of continuing insurance coverage for the extension period.
• The Exchange student deadline for applications to Donna Anger is one month prior to the end date on your DS2019 form.

Employment must begin prior to the end of your thirty day grace period on your DS2019.

Employment must be applicable to student's academic program at their home institution. All extensions are subject to academic advisor approval.

The length of the extension will be based on employment dates and may not exceed the duration of the study program.

Students must provide the following documentation:

• Written request for extension to include a description of proposed employment and relation to academic program.
• A letter of offer from the employer including the position title, position location, position duties and exact dates of employment.
• Proof of financial support in the amount of $1,500 per month. Prospective wages will not be considered as proof of financial support.
• Proof of continuing insurance coverage for the extension period.
