Instructions for Degree-seeking International Students
1. Complete an application for admission. You must apply using UAOnline, the University of Alaska online application process. The website is: http://uaonline.alaska.edu/ Select "Apply for Admission." You may also follow the status of your application on UAOnline.
If you cannot complete the application through UAOnline, you may request a paper application from UAF Admissions by e-mailing admissions@uaf.edu Once the application is completed, you will need to mail the application along with your application fee and ALL supporting documentation to:

NOTE: Application deadlines are March 1 for the semester beginning in early September and September 1 for the semester beginning mid-January.
2. Pay the admission application fee. The fee can be paid during the application process, by credit card online.
3. Complete the Financial Statement for International Students. The form is available at http://www.uaf.edu/admissions/pdf/intl_financial13-14.pdf. A fully completed and signed original form must be submitted.
4. You or your sponsor must submit an original bank letter or statement, dated within three months of submission, showing at least the minimum amount of funding required on the Financial Statement for International Students. You may have more than one sponsor, with the total funding equaling the minimum amount required. The following information must be included:
- Name(s) of the account holder. These names must match the name of the sponsor as it appears on the Financial Statement for International Students.
- Amount available must be equal to or exceed the amount pledged by the sponsor on the Financial Statement for International Students.
- If you are requesting a letter or statement from the financial institution, please request two originals. Keep one original for your visa appointment. Original documents will not be returned.
5. Take the TOEFL or IELTS exam and have the results reported to UAF.
- UAF's TOEFL reporting score is 4866. You will need to provide this number so that TOEFL will send UAF an official copy of your score. The TOEFL website is www.toefl.org Minimum scores for admission into UAF degree programs are: Paper, 550; Computer, 230; Internet based (IBT), 79.
- For IELTS information http://ielts.org/ The minimum score for admission into UAF degree programs is 6.5.
6. Have official high school and college/university transcripts submitted to UAF:
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
- Request your original high school and college transcripts (official record of your academic work which needs to include grades or marks) be sent to one of the transcript evaluation companies for evaluation. You must request the Comprehensive Course-by-Course Report of your credentials. A list of eligible companies is available at http://www.uaf.edu/admissions/international/undergrad/#providers
- Take the ACT (preferred) or SAT exam and have the results reported to UAF. Test scores must be less than two years old.
GRADUATE STUDENTS
- Request official college and university transcripts (official record of your academic work which needs to include grades or marks) to be sent in English directly from the university to UAF Admissions. The address is:

- Test results: Results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) are required from applicants for most graduate programs. Some programs also require GRE subject exams. MBA program applicants are required to submit scores from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Refer to the admission requirements of your prospective degree program to determine which tests are required.
- Resume/Vitae : Include work and research experience, publications, patents, honors, professional and civic memberships, and foreign travel.
- Statement of Academic Goals: Write a statement indicating why you want to study in a particular program. Include your qualifications and educational experience.
- Letters of Recommendation: Send at least three letters of recommendation from people able to speak to the quality of your work, character and ability to undertake graduate study and research.
- Additional requirements: Master of Fine Arts, Interdisciplinary Program and Education Program applicants have additional requirements.
