Melissa Hawk

Hi! I'm Melissa Hawk, graduate student in Northern Studies at UAF. I have a B.A. in Russian Studies from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, and an M.A. in Soviet Studies from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. My studies here at UAF focus on the aboriginal peoples of Northern Russia and their experiences under the Soviet regime, and during the transition to a more democratic society.

The Northern Studies program has allowed me to combine traditional political science, history, and geography with regional studies, helping me to understand the issues specific to the North and their global relevance.
