The Chocolate Bash, an annual rite of spring at the University of Alaska Museum of the North, is on hold for 2009, a decision made today. Ticket sales were due to begin on Monday, Mar. 9.

"We've been hearing from many of our longtime event partners that this has been a hard season for them," says museum director Aldona Jonaitis. "Recognizing the effort that so many have put into the event over the years and given the state of the economy overall, we've opted not to hold the Chocolate Bash this year."

The Chocolate Bash has been the primary fundraising event for the museum's endowment fund since 1985. The event took a one-year hiatus in 2004 during construction on the museum's new wing.

The museum is looking forward to the return of the Chocolate Bash in spring 2010, and many of the event partners have already put it on their calendars.
