Lecture to focus on new language hypothesis

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Edward Vajda of Western Washington University will give a public lecture on a hypothesis regarding a linguistic connection between Alaska and central Siberian indigenous languages.

“The Siberian Origin of Na-Dene Languages,” begins at 7 p.m. at the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom on the UAF campus. It is free and open to the public.

Vajda’s lecture will focus on evidence he has assembled for a prehistoric connection between the Na-Dene [NAW-denay] family of languages, such as Tlingit, Eyak and Athabascan, and the Ket language in central Siberia. His presentation is part of a two-day seminar at UAF focusing on the possible connections between languages in the two regions.
