Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age
At the Anchorage Museum
March 4 through Oct. 9, 2011
This traveling exhibition created by Chicago’s Field Museum re-creates the lives of mammoths and mastodons. Displays include items from the collection of the University of Alaska Museum of the North, including skeletons, skulls and tusks. Visitors can also see large-scale projections, life-sized dioramas and virtual experiences, along with some of the oldest art in existence.

For a limited time, University of Alaska Museum of the North members can enjoy free admission to the Anchorage Museum and vice versa.
The Anchorage Museum’s Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age exhibition features 15 woolly mammoth fossils discovered in Alaska, including a hair sample and an intact woolly mammoth skull found near Fairbanks. The majority of these Alaska fossils are teeth and tusks on loan from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, which owns more than 13,000 Ice Age mammal specimens.
To obtain reciprocal general admission, you must present your current UAMN membership card when purchasing admission tickets at the Anchorage Museum. This reciprocity deal expires Oct. 9.
