Introduction
Lawrence Ahvakana's (Ah-vah-kah-nah) artwork is known for showing his traditional culture and modern life. The walrus mask shows the connection between human and animal worlds. The artist has placed the man's face between the tusks of the walrus and used real walrus whiskers. The chisel marks on the wood made from his carving tools give the mask a distinctive texture like the brush strokes of an oil painting.
