Introduction
Photographer Don Doll has captured an unusual sight. We see a floating house being towed across a body of water. Don Doll's photograph doesn't let you see how far from land the house is, or how far it has to go. All we know is that these people are moving a house from one location to another. Many people move during the course of their lives to find work, food, or a safer place to live. Occasionally entire towns move because of riverbank or coastal erosion, ice jams, earthquakes, and tidal waves. Why might these people be moving this house across the water? Why don't they just build a new house? How do you think the house stays afloat when pulled along by the boat? Migrating to a new location sometimes involves taking everything with you, including floating your own house.
