Community Projects: Plant Collecting
High school and college students work with science teacher Betty Taylor and plant collector Suzi Golodof to recognize, collect, and press the native plants of St. Paul Island for use in classrooms throughout the year. The students not only identified the plants, but also learned their traditional uses from Aleut Elders invited to work with the Ethnobotany camp. St. Paul Island lies about 350 miles off the western coast of Alaska, in the Bering Sea.
