Butterflies are among the most attractive and enjoyable of Alaska's animals. They are important pollinators and herbivores - tied biologically to many species of flowering plants. There are about as many butterfly species in Alaska as land mammal species, but they are far less well known.

Light Breaks Out 2007/2008
Marvel at the raven breaking away from this block of ice, the sculpture entitled, Light Breaks Out. The raven is associated with light and intelligence. Ice sculptors Luan Xiu Ping, Feng Yan Long, and Ang Zhe are from China. They created this sculpture from a concept design by Wanda Chin. Fairbanks's clear ice is known as the "Arctic Diamond."
