Assistant Professor Curt Szuberla stands by one of the infrasound microphone arrays on the Fairbanks campus used in the verification regime of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. The infrasound research group at the Geophysical Institute uses similar arrays to study the acoustics of man-made and natural phenomena, such as the low-frequency sound produced by volcanoes.
