Use of official UAF web banners
Use of the UAF banner is reserved for official UAF websites and may not be used on nonaffiliated sites. The official UAF web banner, as seen at the top of this page, or an customized official UAF department banner is required on the home page of all official UAF websites. Official banners are recommended, but not required, for use throughout a department's website. A department seeking exclusion from using the official banners must submit a written justification and provide a proof page displaying suitable replacement branding to Marketing and Communications for approval. Please read the exclusion requirements and complete the online form to request banner exclusion.
The official UAF banner must be used as described in these guidelines and may not be altered by adding or removing any elements, or changing the color or size of the banner.
How to add the UAF banner
Adding the UAF banner to your site is relatively easy but there are some key steps that must be followed.
- Insert the banner CSS code into your document.
Insert this bit of CSS code into your document before the closing HEAD tag. Without it, the banner will not be flush to the top and sides of browser windows and the enclosed text will not have the correct style. - Insert the banner code into your document.
The banner is made up of several elements and therefore cannot be copied as an image directly from a web page. Instead the code must be copied and pasted into your document to work correctly.
You are now finished inserting the banner.
The UAF standard web banner is valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
How to add a department banner
Official department banners are created by Marketing and Communications web developers upon request. Customized to match the style and colors of the official UAF banner, an official department banner does not contain the main site navigational tabs nor search box. Instead, the department's name is in the right-hand section and is linked to the department's home page. The UAF logo on the left is linked to the UAF home page. The ABOUT US and CONTACT STAFF links will go to pages you have created for your department on your site. This banner is designed to be used on all pages within a department site.
Adding a customized department banner requires a two-week turnaround (excluding holidays). To obtain a banner, the department web coordinator or web author must take the following steps.
- Request an official department banner for your site from University Marketing and Pulications.
A web developer will contact you to verify your request. - When your banner has been created, you will receive an e-mail notifying you to approve the proof banner.
- Once approved, you will be given instructions on how to add the banner to your site.
Department (custom) banners must be created by Marketing and Communications.
