SUBJECT: Computer Scientists Seek Projects
DEADLINE: January 17, 1996
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Mathematical Sciences is seeking proposals for its computer software development class. Students will review proposals submitted by local government and service organizations and choose which to undertake for the senior project and professional practice course.
The program provides hands-on computer software development experience for students while at the same time providing state-of-the art computer assistance for local community groups.
Since the program began, student computer scientists have developed more than 25 custom software packages, including programs to keep track of police and fire crew rotations. Former clients include the North Pole Police Department, the Alaska Court System, the Fairbanks North Star Borough and Fairbanks Taxi Inc.
According to Peter Knoke, a UAF associate professor of computer science, typical prices for custom software development projects can run as high as $80,000.
Those interested in having their software development projects considered should send their proposals to Knoke via e-mail at ffpjk@aurora.alaska.edu or by mail at the UAF Department of Mathematical Sciences, Fairbanks, Alaska, 99775-1110 by 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17.
