FROM:                 UAF University Relations

SUBJECT:            University of Alaska Fairbanks Winter Closure

LOCATION:         UAF Main Campus

DATE & TIME:     Dec. 25, 1995 - Jan. 2, 1996

University of Alaska Fairbanks offices will be closed Dec. 25 through Jan. 2. UAF offices will reopen for business on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

The annual, winter closure coincides with UAF's holiday break. Residence halls will reopen for students Jan. 14; the first day of classes for the spring semester is Jan. 17. Special arrangements can be made for students who need to stay on campus during the holidays.

Previous winter closures have saved UAF more than $225,000 through reduced staffing levels, lowered building temperatures, and energy conservation through reduced use of ventilation systems, lights, computers and laser printers.
