SUBJECT: UAF Mini-courses for Three-on-Three Participants
LOCATION: University of Alaska Fairbanks
DATE & TIME: June 17, 2002 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
After a weekend on the courts, middle and high school students participating in the Showdown at the Top of the World Three-on-Three State Tournament will spend a day in the classroom at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
On Monday, June 17 various UAF departments will host mini-courses for the participants and their chaperones. The one-hour courses range from art to physics to virtual reality to rocket science.
Its great that these students from around the state will have an opportunity to experience the quality programs UAF has to offer, said Nancy Dix, UAFs director of admissions.
Some participants are on teams competing in the tournament, others won an essay contest about students managing academics and athletics. The mini-courses provide an opportunity for the students to take part in both sides of the delicate balance between school and sports.
Students will meet in Schaible Auditorium at 9 a.m. on June 17 for an orientation and leadership workshop. From 11:05 a.m. to 4 p.m. students will divide into groups and attend their choice of three of the nine mini-courses offered. A lunch break is scheduled from 12:25 to 1:20 p.m.
