SUBJECT: UAF Academic Team Takes Pacific Northwest Tournament

The University of Alaska Fairbanks College Bowl team is the Regional
Champion in the 2002 College Bowl Tournament. The competition sponsored
by the Associations of College Unions International took place at Oregon
State University Feb. 15 - 16, 2002.
The 2002 UAF All Star Team includes: William Bourke, Joe Hardenbrook,
Nick Palso, H.B. Telling, and Robb Myers. These students excelled both
as a team and individually, representing a variety of academic backgrounds
and talents. As a result of the regional win, the team will advance to
Nationals held this year at Kansas State University April 26 - 28, 2002
in Manhattan, Kan.
The UAF All Star team traveled to Oregon State University to compete
with fourteen other teams from the Pacific Northwest. Schools included:
the University of Washington, Simon Fraser University, the University
of Oregon, Oregon State University, Centralia College, Boise State University,
Portland Community College - Rock Creek, Portland Community College -
Cascade, the University of Idaho, Skagit Valley College, Montana State
University - Billings, Albertson College of Idaho and Washington State
University.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is among more than 300 institutions
of higher education playing College Bowl. It is a game of academic knowledge
and quick recall. The questions cover every conceivable topic from literature,
science, history, geography, religion, social sciences, multicultural
topics and the arts to popular culture, sports and current events.
