SUBJECT: Arctic Village Tribal Chief Keynote at Student Leadership Conference

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Second Annual Student Leadership Conference
will take place Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. 5 p.m. in the Wood Center.
This year's theme is "Unleash Your Leadership Potential!" The
goal of the conference is to facilitate growth in student leaders at UAF
through exploration, identification and practice of their personal leadership
abilities. A conference registration fee of $10 for each attendee will
be used to support the Emerging Leaders Scholarship Fund. Scholarships
are available from ASUAF, and clubs/departments are encouraged to sponsor
attendees.
The keynote speaker is Chief Evon Peter, who serves as the tribal chief
for Arctic Village and Venetie and is a UAF Alumnus. Session topics include
"Leading with Ethics", "Followership," "Leadership
as a Lifestyle," "Leading by Serving," "Managing Conflict"
and more. These sessions will be presented by a diverse set of Fairbanks
and UAF leaders, to include Alyeska spokesperson Curtis Thomas, Superior
Court Judge Ralph Beistline, UAF Professor of Speech Communication Pamela
McWherter, UAF Student Ambassadors, UAF Police Chief Terry Vrabec, and
Jeff Stepp, from the Center for Non-Violent Living.
Students can register at the student activities office.
