SUBJECT: Project Jukebox Oral History Demonstration
LOCATION: UAF Rasmuson Library
DATE & TIME: Sept. 27, 2001 at 1 p.m.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Oral History Program, a part of the Alaska and Polar Regions Department of the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library, is announcing the launch of an additional workstation to access a collection of digital oral history recordings. Project Jukebox, an interactive, multi-media computer system, provides public access to nearly 400 hours of Alaska oral history recordings in a digital format, along with photo slide shows, maps, transcripts and other primary source material. With just the click of a mouse, you can hear the stories of Native elders, pioneers, and politicians from all over Alaska.
The Oral History Program has been collecting interviews for more than 20 years and Project Jukebox was developed in 1988 to make these stories more accessible to the public. Two workstations offer access to 28 jukebox programs at the Rasmuson Library. A demonstration will take place Thursday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. on the main floor.
