The University of Alaska Fairbanks community will shower its very own Olympian Melissa Mulloy with pride and admiration at a reception, Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 1 2 p.m. in the Wood Center Ballroom on campus.
Mulloy, the top USA Olympic rifle team member in the women's three-position smallbore, finished eighth overall in Olympic competition in Sydney, Australia. Mulloy made the finals in Sydney and actually led the field going into the kneeling position. According to UAF Athletics and Recreation Director Randy Pitney, Mulloy's coach at the games, the field this year was one of the best the world has seen since the early 1980s.
A UAF senior and business major from Middleton, Mass., Mulloy's rifle career is dotted with numerous accomplishments, including her current reign as the 2000 Air Rifle National Champion, being named All-American five times and a member of the NCAA national champion UAF Nanook rifle team.
A limited number of photos of Mulloy will be available for autographing at the Oct. 3 event.
