DATE: Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 UAF Campus
Former University of Alaska Fairbanks Alumni Association director John C. (Jake) Poole has been named new director of UAF's Tanana Valley Campus. The announcement came today from Ralph Gabrielli, the executive dean of UAF's College of Rural Alaska.
"The search committee produced an exceptional group of finalists," Gabrielli said. "But Jake clearly stood out. During his tenure as interim director, he has earned great confidence based on his administrative effectiveness, his vision for the campus, and his personal qualities."
"Jake Poole is an outstanding selection," added UAF Chancellor Marshall Lind. "He has exciting ideas for growth and development within TVC and has proven his abilities over the past several months."
Poole left his position with the Alumni Association to become interim director at TVC in December of 1999. He served 22 years in the U.S. Army and was Post Commander at Fort Wainwright from 1993-1995 before his retirement from the armed services. Poole has a broad background in education including 25 years of teaching, curriculum development, and vocational education.
TVC offers 20 technical certificate and associate degree programs, as well as academic classes. "I'm really excited and honored to be able to continue leading such a dynamic and successful organization," Poole said.
