Time is running out for rural Alaska residents, especially Alaska Natives, to take advantage of a unique program that can help them earn state teaching certification in their own hometowns. April 15 marks the deadline for future teachers to apply to the Rural Educator Preparation Partnership, an innovative alternative to campus-based teacher education programs offered by the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The program allows prospective teachers to complete student-teaching requirements for state certification in their hometowns under the guidance of mentors in local school districts. Future teachers who have received bachelor's degrees are selected as REPP interns, whereas applicants who have yet to complete their four-year education program become REPP candidates.

Application packets are available at the REPP office in Fairbanks, by phone at (907) 474-5586 or upon request via email to fyurepp@uaf.edu.
