Policies & Procedures Related to the Use of Animals in Research and Teaching

Several UAF policies may be applicable to individuals using vertebrate animals in research and/or teaching activities. These policies include, but are not limited to, the following:

Administrative Procedures: The UAF IACUC, Animal Care Program, and Animal Facility Occupational Health and Safety Program procedures are set forth in UAF's Assurance of Compliance with Public Health Service Policy on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals on file with the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW). These procedures are formulated by the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) and approved by the Institutional Official, IACUC, and OLAW. A current copy of UAF's Assurance is available for review at the ORI.

Standards & Guidance Documents: The following documents have been issued by the IACUC or Animal Facility Managers to clarify expectations on a variety of IACUC and facility management issues:

  • Outreach Standards (IACUC)
  • Visitor Policies (Facility)
    • Biological Research and Diagnostics (BiRD) Building
    • Irving I
