Who can take TMP courses?

Courses are open to everyone. Especially invited are those people interested or working in: tribal government or administration, tribal law, community service and program development, health and social services, education, and economic development.
Those seeking to apply to the program for either the Certificate or the A.A.S. should have a high school diploma or GED, as well as a basic computer literacy.

TMP Course Descriptions, for required courses

TM 101 Introduction to Tribal Government: An introduction to tribal management concepts and issues, indigenous political systems to include duties and powers of local government, customary law and justice in Alaska emphasizing the organization of Native governance and management under federal Indian law and Alaska state-chartered local government and tribal court process and implementation.
TM 105 introduction to Tribal Finance Application: An introduction to tribal finance applications, functions, program and organizational management, budgeting program reporting, and bookkeeping basics.
TM 199 Tribal Management Praticum: Under the direction of a faculty member and tribal leader or mentor, each student is expected to work in a tribal management setting as determined by an Individual Education Plan for one semester or more depending on scope of work.

Program Outline: Certificate

Certification Requirements: Complete nine credits in math, communications, and human relations (3 credits each).
- Recommended math courses (3 credits): ABUS 155 Business Math, or other approved math course at or above the 100 level
- Recommended communications courses (3): CIOS 160 Business English, or other approved communications course, at or above 100 level
- Recommended human relations courses (3): ABUS 154 Human Relations, or other approved human relations course, at or above 100 level
Program Requirements: Complete nine credits in the following courses.
- TM 101 Intro. to Tribal Government (3)
- TM 105 Tribal Finance Applications (3)
- TM 199 Tribal Management Practicum (3)
Electives: Complete twelve credits pertaining to application skills in the following areas: environment, natural resources, health, social/human services, education, public policy and administration, business, and economics. Some courses suggested:
