Roy Stamey

Roy enjoys ‘Holi,’ the Hindu spring ‘holiday of colors’.

Roy is the English Tutor for the Interior-Aleutian Campus. Roy has lived and worked in various regions of Alaska, including the Southeast, Kodiak, the lower Yukon, the Pribilof Islands, and Fairbanks. He has been directly involved in education for 20 plus years, in Fairbanks and St. George, Alaska, the Asir region of Saudi Arabia, and at the American Embassy School in New Delhi, India. He resigned from teaching in 2007. Most recently he was library assistant at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks.

Roy is originally from Athens, GA, and maintains family ties to the southeastern states. He received his B.A. from Concordia College in Bronxville, NY, and his M.A. from the McGregor School of Antioch University, Yellow Springs, OH. His subject specialties are history and the humanities. He has spent several years teaching English Language Learners and has taught history, English, and general language arts throughout his career. Roy is married and has two children. His son, Michael, lives and works in Seattle. His daughter, Mackenzie, is a student at UAF.

Roy is committed to the belief that reading and writing are essential, fundamental skills in today’s world, and, like all other skills, they can be learned – regardless of one’s background.  He feels extremely privileged to be able to provide English support through I-AC to those who are working to improve these skills.

In his off time, Roy enjoys reading, writing, travel, most outdoor activities, and especially gardening. He recognizes how fortunate he is to live and work in Alaska.
