Lara Hensley Garno

Assistant Professor of Human Services

Lara teaches courses for the Human Services A.A.S. by distance formats (audioconference and Bb) and intensive courses. She says she loves inspiring students to develop a love of learning and achieving personal academic goals.

She has lived and worked as a Behavioral Health Clinician in Alaska for over 20 years. For years she provided counseling services for many villages in Bristol Bay region and the Interior.

She received her bachelor's degree in Sociology from Fort Hays State University in 1991. She received her Rural Human Services certificate from UAF in 1994. In 2003, she completed her Master of Arts degree in Community Psychology. Her thesis was “Therapeutic Multi-faceted Relationships in Rural Alaska.”

Lara loves to spend her free time writing, gardening and knitting.
