The Aleutian / Pribilof Center serves one of the most remote areas of Alaska, an area of approximately 13,000 square miles, triangulating from False Pass to the Pribilofs to Atka. View a map of the area.
This area is the traditional homeland of the Unangâx (also known since Russian times as "Aleuts") for up to 9,000 years. In fact, some of the oldest maritime sites in North America can be found in this region. Culturally this is a very rich region, and many traditional crafts are still practiced today. Our nationally recognized museum has been working on local archeological digs, providing students with the opportunity for first hand experience. Click here for more cultural information and pictures.
The Center is located in Unalaska and leases space from the Unalaska City School. Three full-time staff are responsible for all operations, from recruitment and registration to support, instruction, and program development. Click here to see scenes from Unalaska.
Augmenting a wide range of courses available via distance education, the Center regularly works with regional agencies to offer local courses, which are held in regional schools. Click here to see photos from our local classes.
Since 1988, 44 regional residents have earned Certificates, Associates of Arts and Bachelors degrees in such areas as Community Health, Rural Human Services, Education, and Rural Development. An average of 325 students that approximately 700 credit hours a year with the Aleutian / Pribilof Center.
