Internet2 a consortium
Internet2 is a consortium led by more than 200 universities working in partnership with industry and government. Internet2's mission is the development and deployment of advanced network applications and technologies for research and education by accelerating the creation of the next-generation Internet.

A Very Fast Network
Connecting to Internet2's 10Gbps network is easy, as is fine-tuning a computer for best performance on the network, and connections on the network are carefully managed and dedicated for educational institutions and government agencies. Though some commercial traffic goes over the Internet2 network, the network's bandwidth (size of its "pipe") is much larger than the standard Internet's, making the Internet2 network much faster than the congested standard Internet.
