Undergraduate Publication

We at the Honors Program highly encourage our motivated students to submit undergraduate work for publication. Publications are generally for academic recognition, journal submissions, poster and meeting presentations, or for grant and proposal funding.

On campus, some publication opportunities are offered through the office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarly Activity.

Nationally, you can find opportunities through Western Regional Honors Council and the National Collegiate Honors Council, both of which the Honors Program participates in.

We work closely and supportively with our students during the process.

Poster and Meeting Presentation

In 2012, five invited UAF Honors Students (Christopher Clement-Fr.-Biol., Samantha MacNeath- Sr.-Math, Katie Rubin-Sr.-Biol., Jenna Schmidt-Sr.-Biol., and Hannah Tallan-Jr.-Biol., traveled to the Western Regional Honors Conference (WRHC), April 12th-14th, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, to deliver poster presentations of their Honors Capstone Research Theses. Students are mentored by UAF faculty and wrote from 1-3 grants applications each to fully fund their travel.

Hannah Tallan placed 1st with her title, “Identifying raphé respiratory chemosensory amplifiers in situ.” Katie Rubin placed 2nd with her title, “Alaskan red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) morphology: Indicators for climate change”, while competing with Honors Students from 25 colleges and universities representing 11 Western states.

This year, 2013, 12 UAF Honors students attended the WRHC meeting in Flagstaff, AZ, 10-14 April. There was no poster judging session, but the students were still able to present their posters and research.
