Hello!

Welcome to the Honors Program, our refurbished Honors House and updated Website!

We are excited to share with you what it is the UAF Honors Program, now into its 29th year, can provide toward embellishing your social and academic “home away from home.” We do so for many motivated, best, brightest and exceptionally talented students. The Honors Program is the ‘red carpet’ portal to new life experiences and adventures.

What exactly is “Honors”? The information we provide in the following pages will help answer questions you may have about us and whether or not Honors should become a part of your UAF experience. The Honors Program encompasses challenge, rigor, and myriad enrichment opportunities gleaned through select courses taught by the best professors. It instills Student Leader service to our UAF and Fairbanks communities, governance, academic scholarship and personal growth. That being said, the Honors Program and curriculum is not about unneccesarily increasing your school work load. We like to follow a  "Better, not more" philosophy so our students gain a profound working knowledge of a subject.

Honors students have exclusive benefits in programmatic scholarships totaling over $60,000.00, small classes, in-depth approaches to learning, and early, mentored research opportunities.
The Honors Program emphasizes cross- and inter-disciplinary, national, and studies abroad. We encourage academic achievement and participation in our intellectual and social communities. Students pursue majors in all UAF Colleges and Schools, become student leaders, and are active participants in all aspects of what it is that makes our community so inviting.

In fall of 2011, the Honors Program hosted 190 students; up from 89 students after graduation losses. By the fall of 2012, we hope to include as many as 300 students in our program. This fall we welcomed 101 incoming freshman and transfer students, the highest incoming cohort in our 28-year history.

Honors faculty and staff work closely with each student to encourage success. We experience high baccalaureate graduation rates with Honors, high first-year retention rates, show high rates of Alaskan employment, and also place many into prestigious graduate programs worldwide.
