Honors Councils

The Honors Program receives policy and non-policy guidance and advice from both the Faculty Advisory Council and the Honors Student Council, respectively. Each has relatively distinct areas of focus.

If you would like more information about either council or how to join, please email us at uaf.honors@alaska.edu.

Honors Faculty Advisory Council

The Honors Faculty Advisory Council considers matters pertaining to admission, retention, curriculum, and helps evaluate applications for scholarships, institutional support waivers and travel grants. It participates in grant writing in support of programmatic development.

Honors Student Advisory Council

The Honors Student Advisory Council is the active voice of the Honors students; it makes recommendations for program development and provides input on myriad student-centric functions, has its own accounting and entrepreneurial profit function. It organizes student social activities and fund-raising events to benefit local nonprofit agencies, as well as coordinating the annual Welcome Barbecue and the annual Excellence in Teaching luncheon. A member of the Honors Student Council is invited to attend and represent the students’ point of view at the meetings of the Honors Faculty Advisory Council.

Chancellor's Gala

The Chancellor's Dancing with the Cars Gala is an annual fundraising event for UAF and for the community. In its third year, the focus was on UAF Center for Alaska Native Health Research Student Scholahships, and the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital J. Michael Carroll Cancer Treatment Center.

The Honors Student Advisory Council has for the last two years assisted by running the coat-check for this event and helping with the auction. We helped with the auction by taking down the information of those who won the auction.

We owe a big thanks to Cheri Renson for inviting us to take part in this event.

This event is a prime example of how the Honors Student Advisory Council meshes with other University institutions to the benifit of everyone involved.  The Honors Student Advisory Council will also be assisting at the Motown Cabaret Fundraiser on Feb 24, 2012. We owe a big thanks to Kurt Byers for inviting us to help with the Motown cabaret.
