International Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day
... is coming!
2008-2009 Activities
International Ice Art
Ice Art! On St. Patrick's Day (March 17) night, we'll meet at the Honors House
by 8:30 pm, and caravan to the World Ice Art Championships. This is, in fact,
a world class event, and an opportunity that should not be missed. If you're
skeptical of the awesomness that awaits, see the images at the Ice Art website.
Soup-Off
A soup-off! Honors students and friends are invited to make a pot of soup
and bring it to the honors house for a soup-off at 6 p.m., or just show up
to eat soup (and bread) and judge the palatability of each! If you can make
a soup, please email me so we know how many contestants to plan for. If you
want to eat soup, just show up at 6:15 with an appetite!
International Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day Dinner/Scavenger Hunt
In celebration, we're hosting a dinner and scavenger hunt for honors
students, and anyone else, who wants some free food and a good time.
Food will start around 6 - the hunt begins at 7 p.m.
Bringing a flashlight might be helpful. Dressing and talking like a pirate
is encouraged. Bring friends is a must (they don't have to be in the
program.) Otherwise, the honors program will provide anything you may need.
Canoe Trip Fall 2008
The canoe trip was a lot of fun -- and, no one got dunked in the river. (If you think getting dunked in the river is fun, you haven't been dunked in the upper Chena River in mid-September. Brrrr!) We will post pictures soon.
UAF Honors Program students are always involved in lots of great activities and events, including bonfires, barbecues, academic competitions, movie nights and weekend trips.
Dinner and Entertainment
In the recent past, Thursday nights at the Honors House were dinner/movie nights, when members are welcome to stop in for some great (and free!) food, along with thought-provoking and entertaining movies of various genres. Pending reorganization and scheduling, D&E nights are temporarily cancelled.
In the past, the program has sponsored an honors retreat at Chena Hot Springs, renting several cabins and supplying everyone with pool passes. This trip provides a great way to relax and unwind from the stresses of college studies while building camaraderie among like-minded students. Honors students have also traditionally had a strong involvement with Starvation Gulch activities.
