Wednesday, July 28, 2009 -- Faculty contract dates

QUESTION

Could you please advise me as to when 9-month faculty go back on contract for the 09-10 academic year?  My 13-week calculations indicate August 16th, but I heard a rumor the date was being pushed back one week to Aug. 23.  Thank you very much!

RESPONSE

UAF's AY09-10 faculty contract dates are Aug. 23, 2009 to May 22, 2010. This year the contract period had to be moved by one week to correspond with the upcoming academic calendar. The dates are noted in faculty contract letters.

Wednesday, July 22, 2009 -- Bullying in the workplace

SUGGESTION

I am the target of a bully in the workplace. I would like our community to know about this type of behavior. See www.bullyonline.org. Also, I don't believe many staff in our Human Resources department have the awareness they need to deal with this. What is our recourse?

RESPONSE

Human Resources  promotes fair treatment, provides for continuing opportunities for training and development, values and recognizes productivity and achievement, and respects the worth and dignity of all individuals who comprise the university’s workforce.  Workplace bullying is not an acceptable practice at the university and employees who believe they are a target of bullying behavior should feel as though they can come forward with concerns in the workplace. UA policies and regulations outline the process by which these types of complaints are addressed. The appropriate offices to contact are Human Resources department at 474-7700 or the Office of Equal Opportunity at 474-6600.

Monday, July 20, 2009 -- Patty Center construction

QUESTION

Is something being constructed next to the Patty Center?

RESPONSE

There are two projects near the Patty Center this summer.

The project in front of Patty Center replaces the exterior waste lines of the building and reroutes the roof drains for a future project. New asphalt will be applied Tuesday, July 21. During this project a new ADA-compliant ramp was installed. Fencing will be removed after asphalt work is completed.

Repairs of the curb and roadway on the Patty Center Drop-Off Loop will begin soon. This is the loop in front of the ice rink. The project is expected to begin August 1, 2009 and may affect buses and deliveries.

In addition, Denali Lane will be closed for road resurfacing and curb and gutter installation beginning July 20. Denali Lane is located north of the lower residence halls. Work hours are from 7 a.m .to 5 p.m. six days a week.

For more information about these and other construction projects this summer, visit the Facilities Services website at www.uaf.edu/fs/ or call 474-7000.
