Dr. Lawrence K. Duffy became Interim Dean of the Graduate School
in 2007. He joined the UAF faculty in 1987 as an Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Natural
Sciences and the Institute of Arctic Biology. He attained the rank of Professor in 1991. Dr. Duffy has served as President of the UAF Faculty Senate, Chair of the UA Faculty Alliance and has been a member of the System Governance council. He received the Carol Feist Outstanding Advisor Award, the NIDCD Minority Mentoring Award and the UAF Alumni Award for Professional Achievement. He has also been an officer in several professional societies and currently as executive secretary of the Arctic Division, AAAS. His community service activities range from President of the Board of Directors (1994) of the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Alaska to member of the Ft. Wainwright Restoration Advisory Board (2000). He is currently a member of the board of the Fairbanks Community Behavioral Health Center and a member of the North Slope Borough Pollution Control Committee. The Graduate Dean is responsible for graduate studies in 48 Master's and 16 Doctoral programs at UAF. The Dean also works with faculty to enhance the quality and productivity of the UAF interdisciplinary graduate program.
