Roadmap to Graduation
Here is a quick list of the paperwork necessary for your program and graduation:
First semester of your program:
- Appointment of Committe Form - due by the last day of instruction
Second semester of your program:
- Graduate Study Plan (GSP) must be submitted by the end of the second semester
- Annual Report of Committee due by May 15 of every year
At least one semester prior to graduation:
Last semester of your program (if not submitted yet):
- Report on Comprehensive Exam (oral and/or written)
- Report on Language Tool (if required)
- Report on Thesis or Project Defense
- Graduation Application
Writing a thesis or dissertation?
Here is what you will need to turn in with your final draft of your thesis/dissertation*:
Master's and Ph.D.s:
- Signature page with all the signatures (at least one copy on thesis paper).
- Completed Thesis Submittal Form. Master's or Ph.D.
- Receipts for payment of binding, postage, and other charges (payable at the UAF Business Office).
- Journal Voucher(s) (JV) from your department if they are paying for any copies.
- UMI Thesis/Dissertation Publishing Agreement Form (optional for Master's, required for Ph.D.s).
- .pdf copy of your thesis/dissertation (final draft version).
For Ph.D.s only:
- 50-word version of your abstract (sent via e-mail).
- Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED).
All of these must be submitted at the same time as your final draft of your work.
After you receive the corrections required by the Graduate School, you will need to turn in:
- Final, corrected version of your thesis/dissertation. All copies that you requested in your submittal form (remember that at least one copy must be on thesis paper).
- Any CDs and/or maps, charts or other enclosures to go with your copies.
- .pdf copy of your thesis/dissertation (final, corrected version) on CD.

*Please note that for the Fall 2009 Thesis Submittal deadline there will be no extensions granted, no exceptions.
