You are an important part of the fabric of the University of Alaska Fairbanks--an institution that has evolved from its "land grant" roots into America's arctic university.
Students and Faculty
The quality and diversity of our students and faculty sustained our rich traditions in 2006:
- More than 9,000 students attend UAF's multi-campus system--1,400 are reached through the rural campuses
- 586 UA Scholars (top 10 percent of graduating seniors from any Alaska high school)
- 21 percent of our student body is Alaska Native and/or American Indian
- 280 international students
- 943 faculty members, and more than 400 are tenured
- The UAF rifle team won the NCAA championship--3 other teams competed in NCAA championships
- The UAF steel bridge team finished first in the northwestern regional competition
Charlotte Darrington, 2006 graduate and scholarship winner, believes "education is the key to finding a successful path."
Progress
UAF's growing reputation as America's arctic university positioned us to:
- Sponsor "International Polar Year"--an honor that will shape a new generation of arctic researchers, professionals and leaders
- Receive $140 million dollars in research grants
Traditions
UAF traditions are as unique as Alaska itself, and create lifelong memories. You remember...
- Cheering for your favorite UAF athlete from the Patty or Carlson Center bleachers
- Making friends and testing your limits through UAF's Outdoor Adventures in mushing, the spring migration paddle and biking Denali
- Being involved in one of the 100 student clubs and serving the community through volunteerism and leadership
Partners
Throughout UAF's history, private support has advanced the institution beyond the means of state and tuition funding. All of our achievements are enhanced through gifts from alumni, friends, corporations and foundations.
We invite you to join us in creating this new tradition of annual unrestricted giving--a means of replenishing vital resources--among our alumni and friends. These gifts--which fund scholarships, fellowships and professorships--address UAF's areas of greatest need and greatest opportunity.
Thank you for being part of this new tradition!
An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.
