During August 1967, Fairbanks suffered a devastating flood. As one of the highest points in the area, UAF volunteered residence halls, the gymnasium and food services to help the thousands of citizens forced from their homes. The only means of transport throughout Fairbanks was by boat. Here evacuees climb the stairs to UAF near the corner of College Road and University Ave.
