Art major Heidi Helling holds her unfinished teapot in front of the Anagama wood kiln at UAF. The large outdoor kiln is fired for nearly three days around the clock to produce a unique glaze effect for ceramic pieces ranging in size from small cups to large sculptures. The art department fires the kiln once each semester.
