The mission of the Division of Maintenance - Asbestos Shop is to ensure asbestos is properly identified, managed, abated, and disposed.
Shop Summary
The Asbestos shop reports directly to the Director of Maintenance. All employees are certified to inspect, sample, and abate asbestos. The asbestos work ranges from small tasks to very large tasks. This shop works competitively by submitting abatement bids for remodel and capital construction jobs. This shop responds to emergency exposures and spills while ensuring proper disposal of all hazardous asbestos waste. This shop analyzes material samples to determine if asbestos is present using polarized light microscopy.
