| STEP 1: EMPLOYMENT APPLICANT
The applicant must submit an application online at
www.uakjobs.com before the closing date in order to continue
with the applicant process.
STEP 2: PRE-AGILITY TEST
There is no pre-agillity test scheduled for the Spring 2008 recruitment at this time, however, the University Fire Department is now using the standardized CPAT testing format. Online demonstration photos and videos of the testing can be viewed at: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/fire/cpathome.htm .
STEP 3: PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST
All applicants must pass the CPAT physical agility test in order
to proceed with the written aptitude test. Failure of any task
within the physical agility test disqualifies the applicant
for employment with the department.
STEP 4: APTITUDE TEST-WRITTEN
The applicant will be administered an aptitude test in order
to test for memory retention and mechanical knowledge. The applicant’s
aptitude test score will be combined with the interview scores
in order to assist in the ranking of individuals to hire.
STEP 5: ORAL INTERVIEWS
The applicant will participate in an oral interview conducted
by a board of staff and students. Each interview question is
worth a set amount of points. The total points achieved by the
applicant during the interview will be combined with the aptitude
test score.
STEP 6: BACKGROUND INFORMATION
All applicants must pass a background check. The applicant’s
driving record, criminal history will be checked as a minimum.
Any of the following would disqualify the applicant from employment:
a felony conviction; a misdemeanor record within the last two
years other than minor traffic violations; multiple traffic
violations in the last three years (more than 3); multiple arrests
without charges and/or convictions (more than 3); any current
charges pending as well as any other information which the Fire
Chief would deem as adverse to the operations of the University
Fire Department.
STEP 7: RANKING OF APPLICANTS
The total scores of each applicant will be ranked in descending
order. Positive or negative feedback on the background investigation
will be used to determine the ranking of individuals when their
scores are relatively close.
NOTE: Successful candidates will need to provide proof of receipt of the following vaccinations BEFORE hire: Hepatitis A, B, and Tuberculosis. |
