E-10

Engine-10 is the first steel ladder equipped apparatus UFD has had in some time.  The KME Predator itself is a true Quint style, meeting or exceeding the minimum requirements in aerial ladder length, pump, water tank, hose bed and ground ladder compliment.  Meeting the new NFPA safety standards, Engine 10 is equipped with Roll Stabilization technology, Side-Mount Air Bags for the crew, and a smart cab which displays seat belt, tire inflation and vehicle speed information to the company officer.  It is equipped with ATC and ABS traction and breaking devices as well as a transmission retarder.  The aerial is equipped with safety technology to minimize accidents, known as "Envelope Control".  This engine is truly designed with crew safety as a primary priority and reflects UFD's commitment to keeping its members safe.

E-11

Engine 11 is unique because it can operate as a first resonse engine as well as an 80' aerial truck.

Engine 11 is unique because it can operate as a first response engine as well as an 80' aerial truck. The pre-plumbed, 1,000 gpm master stream is an effective fire attack tool. The aerial serves as an excellent rescue, roof access and scene lighting tool. Extrication equipment also allows Engine 11 to perform light rescue. Driver / Operators of Engine 11 are expected to pump for initial attack crews, quickly secure a water supply, effectively and safely utilize the aerial for rescue, fire attack, and lighting. Due to increased operational responsibilities and increased life safety responsibilities, Engine 11 is typically reserved for more experienced and qualified driver / operators .

Engine 12

Engine 12 is University Fire Department’s most advanced firefighting apparatus.

Engine 12 is UFD’s most advanced firefighting apparatus. Some of the features are: DDEC VI system, transmission retarder, 2000 gpm pump, 1500 gallon water tank, a remote-powered roof mounted scene light, electric/ hydraulic ladder rack, full compliment pre-plumbed extrication tools, in cab air bag system, and ABS brake system. E-12’s high ground clearance all wheel drive system and 2000 gpm pump make it optimal for heavy fire attack in difficult terrain. It carries 8 spare SCBA bottles, a wide-variety of tools, and 3 preconnected hand lines. Engine 12 drivers are responsible for managing each and every component of the apparatus to provide safe and effective operations, and to report deficiencies to the Station Captain in a timely manner.

E-16

Engine 16 operates as the primary Rescue Engine and operates as an initial attack engine.

Engine 16 is possibly one of UFD's most versatile rigs. It operates as the primary Rescue Engine with a full compliment of extrication tools, cribbing, rope and ice rescue equipment, etc. Engine 16 also operates as an initial attack engine; all wheel drive, high clearance and a 1000 gallon tank make it optimal for the non-hydranted areas and in the hills. The tank size also allows Engine 16 to operate as a water tanker / tender.

Tanker 11

Tanker 11 is University Fire Department’s primary water tender/tanker.

Tanker 11 is UFD’s primary water tender/tanker. It is third out to fires in non-hydranted areas and is first out for mutual aid tanker requests. Tanker 11 lacks the equipment of an attack engine, though it does operate as a support vehicle with 2 preconnects, a monitor, 6 spare SCBA bottles, and some hand tools. Tanker 11 drivers are responsible for providing water supply to the nursing or attack engine depending on the operation. Tanker 1 drivers are often called upon to run a water shuttle between the operation and the nearest water source.

Truck 11

Truck 11 is a 135' aerial truck.

Truck 11 is a 135' aerial truck. The 110' pre-plumbed, 1,000 gpm master stream is an effective fire attack tool. The aerial serves as an excellent rescue, roof access and scene lighting tool. There is a compliment of 8 ground ladders ranging in size from 10' attic to 39' extension (however: the 14 foot extension ladder is out of service). Truck 11 is designed to be operated by 2 driver / operators. One operates the aerial ladder while the other operates the pump. Water supply is a primary consideration due to the limited size of the tank. Truck 11 is usually the last engine that drivers are trained on.
