Dining Services

UAF Dining Services strives to provide quality food service at a reasonable price with a variety of locations throughout campus.

We provide several dining options on UAF main campus and at our downtown CTC campus. During the week our board-plan breakfast is served in the Wood Center Food Court, with lunch and dinner served at Lola Tilly Commons. The Wood Center Food Court now includes Taco Bell, Grill 155, Pizza Luna, Tsunami Sushi, Polar Perk, and Freshens.

Other dining options on campus include the Campus Cache Convenience store in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland (MBS) housing complex, which includes a Subway retail outlet. On upper campus, we have the West Ridge Café in the Arctic Health Building on upper campus. All locations accept cash, check, Munch Money, Bear Bucks, and credit cards.

Meal Plans

How do I sign up for a meal plan?

You can find the meal plan application form on the following link:

Once you have filled out and signed the form, you may be fax or scan and email to the contact information included on the top of the meal plan application form. You may also hand carry the form for the current or upcoming school year to room 116 in the Eielson building Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Do I use my PolarExpress card for my meal plan?

Your PolarExpress Card must be presented to use your meal plan, cash equivalency, or declining dollars (Munch Money or Bear Bucks). Your PolarExpress Card is the only way that our staff can identify you and confirm you are the proper plan holder.

Who has to have a meal plan?

Undergraduate students living in all UAF dorms must have a meal plan, with the exception of the Cutler Sac Apartments. This is a requirement of Residence Life contract and the UAF fire Marshal.

What meal plan can I pick/ how do I determine which meal plan is best for me?

There is no one right meal plan for every student. Please review the meal plan application and your individual schedule, to determine which meal plan will best fit your needs. If you need help, please contact Dining Services at 116 Eielson 474-6661 so we may discuss the options and help you decide. You may change your meal plan decision until the last day of fee payment for each semester.

How do I drop my meal plan?

Please be aware that if you are leaving a dorm, you may drop your meal plan, but not until afteryou have fully checked out of the dorm. The prorated refund schedule is printed on the back of your Dining Agreement. You may email your request to drop a meal plan from you alaska.edu account, or come by our office at 116 Eielson to make your request.

How do I change my meal plan?

Meal plans can be changed for the current semester up until the last day of fee payment. Email requests for a change should be sent to uaf-dining-dept@alaska.edu from a student’s alaska.edu account, or changed in person at 116 Eielson Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What is Munch Money?

Munch Money is a declining-balance account similar to a debit card account. When you choose a meal plan, the included Munch Money dollar amount will be deposited on to your PolarExpress card. You may use the funds (for food items only) at any dining location as well as at most of the vending machines on campus.

Munch Money balances expire after two years of account inactivity.

Who do I talk to about my dietary restrictions?

Do you have particular dietary needs? No problem! Our Campus Dining Services Program can accommodate your special dietary requirements. Please contact Lisa Kennedy @ 474- 6070, Dave Sikorski @ 474-6823 , or Ted Lancette @ 474- 7233 for an appointment to discuss your dietary needs. Once aware of your dietary restrictions, they will help to accommodate your particular needs.

If I do not have a meal plan, Can I purchase meals at Lola Tilly?

Yes! You may purchase lunch or dinner at Lola Tilly. The cost for an all-you-can-eat lunch is $9.75 and $11.00 for an all-you-can-eat dinner. You may also purchase an all-you-can-eat breakfast at the Wood Center for $8.25. You may also purchase food at a variety of dining locations in the food court at the Wood Center with cash, credit card, or Bear Bucks.

Another option is to purchase a 10 Block meal plan at the PolarExpress office. For $90.00 you can buy 10 meals for use at the Wood Center for breakfast or Lola Tilly for lunch or dinner. The 10 Block plan may be purchased with cash, personal check, credit card, or Bear Bucks. The 10 blocks will be added to your PolarExpress card, so you must present your card at the dining location to pay for a meal.

These plans are non-refundable and non-transferable.

How do I get a refund from a vending machine when it doesn’t work?

If you have a problem with a vending machine, you may get a refund at the following locations:

Signers' Hall Business Office
Patty Center Ticket office
MBS Complex Residence Life office

Wood Center (Wood center vending machines only)

 
How do I request a to-go meal?

We are happy to provide carryout meals as well as sick trays as our overall goal to ensure that we can best meet your needs. To learn more about both of these, please view our Carryout Meal Policy.

What are the general dining policies and procedures?

One of our main goals is to provide a pleasant, clean, comfortable and satisfying dining experience. In order to meet this goal, we ask for your assistance with the following procedures:

  • Please bus your tray and disposables from your table when you have finished dining.
  • Please refrain from taking food, dishes or utensils from the dining area.
  • Remember that meal cards are non-transferable. Meal cards cannot be used by anyone but the meal plan purchaser.
  • One meal credit is equal to either one meal in the dining room, or one “To GO” container with one fountain beverage. No leftovers are to be removed from the dining room.
Seconds Anyone?

You never have to be too shy to ask for seconds with our Campus Dining Program. Our generous policy allows for a second helping of many menu favorites within the Lola Tilly Commons. All you have to do is ask! Please note, however, our Seconds Policy excludes Premium Meal Theme nights, such as Steak Night.

Many people ask us about the alcoholic beverage policy for events on campus.

Alcoholic Beverage Service and No Host Bars

The UAF Catering Department can provide alcohol and bartending services for your catered event. We provide both No Host "Cash" Bars as well as a hosted bar services. We would be happy to assist you in selecting beverages to compliment your menu or purchase beverages on your behalf. We can also accept and "uncork" your alcohol if you wish to provide your own alcohol.

Alcoholic Beverage Service on the UAF Campus or for UAF events located off-campus requires that you have approval of the Chancellor or designee (the Director of Auxiliary, Recharge, and Contract Operations) in addition to a permit from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

UAF Policy permits the sale of beer and wine only at events held on the UAF Campus and UAF events located off campus. An authorized representative of the University must be present for the duration of the event to ensure that all obligations specified in the application and permit is fulfilled.

The Acohol Beverage Application can be found on the website for Auxiliary, Recharge, and Contract Operations, and is included on the page below. It must be submitted two weeks prior to the event.

No Host Bars: A minimum of 50 guests is required to retain a No Host “Cash” Bar and beverages prices are determined by the Catering Department. There is a minimum charge of the lesser of $6.00 per guest or $500 to cover the No Host Bar (i.e. revenue is only $350 and there are 100 guests, then the host will be charged the difference of $150). No bartender fee is applied for a No Host Bar.

Alcohol permit $100.00/event*
Bartender fee $50.00/bartender-hour**

*Event is defined by Alcoholic Beverage Control. The Catering Department works in compliance with all applicable law and will charge for the number of permits that we are required to purchase by the ABC Board.
**A minimum charge of four hours for each bartender will be applied. At least thirty minutes before and after the start and end of the event are charged for the setup and breakdown of the event. As always, the Catering Department is willing to discuss special arrangements to fit your needs. Please contact the Catering Department to plan your event
