FELLOWSHIPS

Fellowships are available through the University of Alaska Foundation, the Graduate School, certain academic departments and private organizations. There are a limited number of these awards granted each year and the amount of the awards varies. For information, contact UAF Development, (907) 474-6402 or the Graduate School, (907) 474-7464.

Alaska Space Grant Program Fellowships
These graduate fellowships are service-based awards to students who work on aerospace-related projects. The amount of each award depends on the scope of the project and the level of responsibility assumed by the student.

Dissertation & Thesis Completion Fellowships
These fellowships are for full-time graduate students planning to graduate during the same academic year in which the award is received. The awards are intended to assist students without a source of funding to support thesis writing.

Evaluation of applications will be based on academic achievements, prior timely progress in graduate course-work and thesis or dissertation research, and a plan plus time-line for completion of the thesis or dissertation within the duration of the fellowship.

EPSCoR Fellowships
Alaska EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) is a university-state partnership which builds Alaska-based research. Funded in part by the National Science Foundation (NSF), EPSCoR projects are required to address national scientific priorities. Alaska EPSCoR has chosen to focus on physiology, genomics, engineering, and contaminants; and to support training of students for the 21st century technologically-based workforce. Grants, fellowships and internships are available for undergraduates and graduates.

Graduate Fellowship Program
Graduate fellowships are seed money to support graduate students working with their advisors on research, publications, and proposals to increase research productivity and external funding. Preference will be given to Ph.D. students.

IGERT Fellowship Program
The Interdisciplinary Graduate Education and Research Training (IGERT) Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks offers a graduate training program in Regional Resilience and Adaptation (RR&A) to train scholars, policy-makers, and managers to address issues of regional sustainability in an integrated fashion.

Fourteen fellowships are available each year for PhD students in the RR&A program. As stipulated by the National Science Foundation, these fellowships are available only to PhD students and only to American citizens or permanent residents.
