Fellowships
Fellowships are available through the University of Alaska Foundation, the Graduate School, certain academic departments and private organizations. There are a limited number of these awards granted each year and the amount of the awards varies.
Alaska Space Grant Program Research Fellowships
Eligibility:
- Students majoring in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) fields. Preference is given to projects directly related to NASA's interests.
Award amount:
- Research fellowships of up to $5,000
How to apply:
- Awarded through a competitive process. Students receiving awards in past competitions may apply and receive awards for subsequent competitions. For more information visit the Alaska Space Grant Program.
Dissertation & Thesis Completion Fellowships
The awards are intended to assist students without a source of funding to support thesis writing.
Eligibility:
- Full-time graduate students planning to graduate during the same academic year in which the award is received.

How to apply:
- Evaluation of applications will be based on academic achievements, prior timely progress in graduate course-work and thesis or dissertation research, and a plan plus time-line for completion of the thesis or dissertation within the duration of the fellowship. EPSCoR Fellowships
Alaska EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) is a university-state partnership which builds Alaska-based research. Funded in part by the National Science Foundation (NSF), EPSCoR projects are required to address national scientific priorities.

- Grants, fellowships and internships are available for undergraduates and graduates.

Graduate Fellowship Program
Graduate fellowships are seed money to support graduate students working with their advisors on research, publications, and proposals to increase research productivity and external funding.
Eligibility:

IDEA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE)
Alaska INBRE (IDEA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence), funded by the National Institutes of Health NCRR, is an infrastructure building grant which builds research throughout the State of Alaska. INBRE research focuses on Environmental Agents and Disease and the impacts of climate change on contaminant transport and the emergence and movements of infectious pathogens, as well as on fundamental mechanisms of disease. Eligibility:
- Graduate and undergraduate students whose interests are in biomedical related research. Preference is given to students working in INBRE supported laboratories.
Award Amount:
- Varies. Fellowships for graduate students are awarded yearly and include a monthly stipend, tuition and student insurance. Support for undergraduates provides monthly stipends for summer or per semester and includes a budget for project related expenses.

IGERT Fellowship Program
IGERTs train scholars, policy-makers and managers across natural and social science disciplines. The Resilience and Adaptation Program (RAP) addresses issues of regional sustainability. The Marine Ecosystem Sustainability in the Arctic and Subarctic (MESAS) program addresses issues of marine ecosystem sustainability.
Eligibility:
- Graduate fellowships are available through two NSF-funded Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training (IGERT) Programs at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. As stipulated by the National Science Foundation, these fellowships are available only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents seeking a PhD.
