How to apply for financial aid
Step 1
Fill out the FAFSA
Before we can determine your eligibility for any kind of financial aid, you must first fill out and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Step 2
Apply for aid
Once your FAFSA has been processed, you may:
- Apply for or receive grants if you qualify,
- Apply for scholarships if you qualify, or
- Apply for loans if you qualify.
Step 3
Complete the Financial Aid Authorization Form
Complete and submit the Title IV Authorization Form (PDF) to the Financial Aid Office.
Step 4
Complete entrance counseling and master pormisorry note
If you are borrowing a federal student loan for the first time, you must complete entrance counseling and sign a master promissory note before your loan is disbursed.
Step 5
Collect your aid
After paying your tuition and fees, any remaining aid will be released to you by the UAF Business Office. Your refund check will be mailed to you, or you may set up a direct-deposit on UAOnline or at the UAF Business Office.
Step 6
Complete exit counseling
Federal regulations require UAF to provide exit counseling to all Federal Stafford Loan and Direct Loan borrowers who graduate, drop below half-time enrollment or leave the university.
