RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION for THE FAMILY OF EMIL USIBELLI and THE USIBELLI COAL MINE, INC.
Whereas, Emil Usibelli was a pioneer of the Alaskan mining industry, and Whereas, Emil Usibelli established the Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc. which continues to make important contributions to the economy and energy needs of Alaska, and Whereas, Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc. has been a major supporter of the University of Alaska Fairbanks since 1977 in many areas of need, including Korean Studies, Geology and Geophysics, School of Engineering, School of Mineral Engineering, and Nanook Athletics, and Whereas, Joe Usibelli and Joe Usibelli, Jr. have carried on management of the Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc. and are well known business and civic leaders in the state of Alaska, and Whereas, Joe Usibelli, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc., is a graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1959, and Whereas, Joe Usibelli was named the University of Alaska Fairbanks Distinguished Alumnus in 1981, and Whereas, Joe Usibelli is a co-chair of the University of Alaska Fairbanks fund raising campaign, and Whereas, Joe Usibelli serves on the University of Alaska Foundation Board of Trustees, and Whereas, Joe and Shelley Usibelli have supported scholarship programs for students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and have contributed to the University Museum, and Whereas, Joe Usibelli, Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer of Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc., is a graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1981, and Whereas, Joe Usibelli, Jr. is a lifetime member of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Alumni Association, and Whereas, Joe Usibelli, Jr. served on the University of Alaska Fairbanks Alumni Association Board of Directors, and Whereas, the Usibelli family and the Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc. have provided a generous endowment for the Emil Usibelli Distinguished Awards in Teaching, Research and Service, Therefore be it resolved, that the Faculty Senate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks takes great pride in the success and civic leadership of its graduates, Joe Usibelli and Joe Usibelli, Jr., and Be it further resolved, that the Faculty Senate, on behalf of the faculty of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Usibelli Family and Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc. for their outstanding generosity and numerous acts benefiting the University. Senators will be kept informed of the Administrative Committee meetings and will be allowed to attend and participate in any voting. RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR RAYMOND C. HIGHSMITH
WHEREAS, Ray Highsmith has served the General Assembly and the UAF Faculty Senate in a manner deserving of the UAF Faculty Senate's greatest admiration and respect; and WHEREAS, Ray Highsmith has served as a Representative to the UAF Assembly in 1987; and WHEREAS, Ray Highsmith has served as a Senator to the UAF Faculty Senate from 1988-1990; and WHEREAS, Ray Highsmith has served as a member of the Scholarly Activities Committee from 1988-90 and as chair from 1989- 90 ; and WHEREAS, Ray Highsmith has served as President-Elect of the UAF Faculty Senate from 1990-1991; and WHEREAS, Ray Highsmith has served as an Executive Committee member of the statewide UA system General Assembly from 1990-1992; and WHEREAS, Ray Highsmith has served as President of the statewide General Assembly UA system from 1990-1992; and WHEREAS, Ray Highsmith has served as President of the UAF Faculty Senate from 1991-1992; and WHEREAS, The UAF Faculty Senate wishes to acknowledge the outstanding service rendered the faculty and the University by the work of Ray Highsmith as he concludes his term as president; now THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the UAF Faculty Senate acknowledges the many contributions of Ray Highsmith and expresses its appreciation for his exemplary service.
